Further six people die from Covid-19 in Scotland bringing hospital death toll to 2,415

A further six people have died from Coronavirus in Scotland bringing the hospital death toll to 2,415.

The Scottish Government also confirmed a rise in the number of positive case this afternoon, with 21 new cases reported overnight bringing the total figure to 15, 603.

A total of 646 people are currently in hospital, while the number of people in intensive care sits at 16, a decrease of seven.

It comes now Scotland has eased lockdown restrictions while battling the pandemic.

The First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced plans for Phase One last week allowing households to meet one other as long as they are outdoors and stay two metres apart.

Scots enjoyed good weather as they were allowed to sunbathe in public  spaces  and sit in parks for the first time in weeks last weekend.

But the SNP leader reminded Scots that the battle against  Covid-19  had not been won and urged the public to stay safe by following strict social distancing rules.

The First Minister's plea came as she revealed she did not meet family members after restrictions were eased.

She said: "Firstly, I had a lot of work on at the weekend.

"Things are pretty busy just now and weekends I try to catch up with a lot of paperwork and reading that I don't get to do during the week.

"Secondly, I knew there would be ... not people breaching the guidelines but people perfectly legitimately, I knew there'd be more people out and about on the roads and I just took a personal decision not to add to that.

"But thirdly, my mum and dad and my sister and my niece and nephew live quite close to each other.

"And because you're only allowed to see one household at a time, and no more than one a day, I would have had to choose between them, and it would have caused just a family dispute.

"So I decided to keep the peace and just not see any of them last weekend."
