Further details emerge as teen fighting for life after attack outside Leaving Cert party

A teenager was last night fighting for his life after being seriously assaulted outside a nightclub in Dublin in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 19-year-old was attacked outside Vela Bar and Restaurant, Liffey Valley, Clondalkin, where 150 people had attended a Leaving Cert results party.

The assault took place outside the venue and it is not known if the victim, who suffered stab injuries, or his attacker had attended the event.

He was taken to Connolly Hospital following the attack, where his condition was last night described as critical. Gardai say there were a number of people in the area at the time and they have appealed for anyone with any information in relation to the attack to contact them.

They will review CCTV footage and are appealing to passing motorists, especially those with dashcam footage, to come forward.

Local Sinn Fein TD Mark Ward also appealed for anyone with information to pass it to the gardai.

He said: “It’s an absolute tragedy. No young person on a night out should end up in hospital like that.”

A resident who lives near the venue said she was shocked to hear of the violent attack.

She said: “I came home this morning and I didn’t have a clue what was going on. I saw the tape and then I heard what happened.

“It’s madness. My young fella is the same age. I’m more than shocked.”

Anyone with information can contact Clondalkin on 01 666 7000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 11 or any Garda Station. Investigations ongoing.”
