Further blow for Dumbarton High Street with TSB to close this month

Dumbarton’s TSB branch will close its doors for the final time on July 29 it has been confirmed.

Bosses revealed last year that the High Street facility would shut this summer, as part of a nationwide programme to ensure the branch network “meets the changing needs of customers” which will see 82 branches closing.

And a TSB spokesperson explained that the coronavirus pandemic has reinforced the decision, with footfall dropping and more customers signing up for online banking.

They said: “We have not taken the decision to close our Dumbarton branch lightly and recognise concerns about the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which resulted in an even lower level of footfall in the branch and an uplift in customers registering
for online and mobile banking.

“We are contacting customers to help them use other banking options, including telephone and digital, and are working with the Post Office, which is less than a mile away, to ensure our customers can continue to access banking services.”

The firm also has premises in Alexandria and Helensburgh but these will remain open.

TSB confirmed the closure as another Dumbarton High Street bank, the Clydesdale, announced that it would be closing on August 26.
