The Scottish Government have confirmed a further 16 people have died in Scotland after testing positive for coronavirus  - bringing the total death toll to 2,261.

The figures revealed the number of positive cases of Covid-19 has risen to15,041, which is a increase of 72 compared to yesterday’s figures.

The number of people being treated for confirmed or suspected cases of the virus in hospital stands at 841, with 50 patients in intensive care.

The latest figures were released by the Scottish Government online this afternoon.

The First Minister's government has taken a very measured approach so far compared to  England  which has already begun to loosen the lockdown.

Scots have been forced to stay indoor as much as possible in an attempt to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

The SNP leader announced that restrictions will start to be eased from May 28.

Her announcement in the Scottish Parliament comes as the University of Glasgow and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde look for health and care staff to take part in a human vaccine trial.

Participants need to be between 18 and 55 years old, healthy, and not infected at any point with Covid-19 to take part in the trial.
