Further 12 people in Dumfries and Galloway die from coronavirus

A further 12 people in Dumfries and Galloway have died from coronavirus in the past week.

The latest figures from National Records of Scotland show the pandemic has now claimed 134 lives in the region, with 55 since the start of 2021.

A further 440 people across Scotland lost their lives between January 25 and 31, 12 less than the week before. The overall total now stands at 8,347.

NRS figures are based on the number of cases where Covid-19 is mentioned on death certificates.

That contrasts with First Minister Nicola Sturgeon's daily update, which uses the number of people who died within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test.

By that measure, 6,181 people had died by yesterday.
