Further £10m in Brexit funding announced by HMRC

A further £10mhas been allocated to managing customs when the UK leaves the EU, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has announced.

It follows the recent announcement of £16million for training and IT costs for businesses that complete customs declarations.

The government says the additional grant has arisen as a 'direct response to industry feedback on what is needed to help build capacity' ahead of Brexit.

The EU is currently set to leave the EU on October 31st - but without a deal in place, prime minister Boris Johnson could be forced to ask the EU for a delay.

The further £10 million in grants is open to UK-based businesses that currently complete customs declarations for importers and exporters, and will be used to support the costs of hiring staff.

Businesses that will benefit from the funding are encouraged to apply early, as applications will close once all the funding has been allocated, and by 31 January 2020 at the latest.

Business can apply online for funding here.
