Young designer Lee Broom is to furniture what Marc Jacobs or Tom Ford are to fashion: unless you're seriously flush (his studded leather chairs are priced 'on application'), you're probably only going to use Broom's collections as a guide to what you'll see in high street stores in the coming year.
With a background in theatre and fashion – he worked as an actor for the Royal Shakespeare Company and interned with Vivienne Westwood – Broom is one of the design industry's trendsetters.

If his new Salon collection, launched on Tuesday at the London Design Festival, is anything to go by, the trend for minimalism is well on the way out. Inspired by the curvaceous lines of 1930s upholstery, with a hint of fashion fetishism, it is rock'n'roll luxury all the way: sweeping, sexy chairs in nude, silver-grey or black given a hint of punk by rings of hand-finished studs in faceted gold or gunmetal.
Debenhams, Heal's, John Lewis and Next often do good, well-priced versions of haute couture furniture like this, so keep an eye out.
