A teenage lifeguard has landed a £10,000-a-month lottery cheque for the next year.
Harmony Dawes’ father woke her in the middle of the night after realising she had won the Set For Life draw.
But the 17-year-old thought it was a dream and had to be reminded of her win the next morning.
She said: “I’m not sure how I had forgotten Dad bursting into my room screaming that I had won but it really felt like a dream.
“Even now it’s been confirmed, it still feels like a dream.
“I’m waiting for someone to tell me it’s a big joke.
"It’s ridiculous, this sort of thing doesn’t happen to people like me.
"Then again, maybe it does.”
The win is welcome news for Harmony, from Brighton, who has been furloughed from her lifeguard apprenticeship.
She said: “My mum is a key worker with the homeless so I know how lucky I am to have a safe place to live during lockdown.
"But it’s still tough to keep positive.
“Although we can’t do much with the win at the moment, just knowing something good has happened has made those around me happier and a little more upbeat.
"That’s got to be a good thing.”
Harmony plans to spend her first monthly cheque on a Tenerife holiday once the lockdown is lifted.
