Furlough scheme extended until end of October

Chancellor Richi Sunak has extended the furlough scheme until the end of October.

There will be no changes until the end of July, but after that employers will be able to bring furloughed workers back part-time.

The UK Government will continue to foot the bill for the job-retention scheme until August, when employers will be asked to start sharing the cost.

Mr Sunak pointed out that £7.5million workers have been furloughed in the UK.

After announcing the extension he tweeted: "By that point we will have provided eight months of support to British people and businesses."
