Angry workers have accused bosses of using quack thermometers and bogus hand sanitiser to keep them at work amid the coronavirus crisis.
Staff at Aggreko claim they are having to go to work even though they insist they are not key workers.
Whistleblowers said the power generator firm is using “useless” thermometers to check staff’s temperatures and filling hand sanitiser dispensers with abrasive cleaning fluid meant for toilet seats.
A source said: “We should definitely not be classed as an essential service. The precautions they have put in place are nonsense and utterly not fit for purpose.”
Aggreko, based in Dumbarton, provides temporary power generation to foreign markets and major sporting events.
The company also supplies diesel generators to developing countries.
A spokesman said: “At our Lomondgate plant, measures we’ve put in place include providing workers with personal protective equipment, temperature checks, split shift patterns and enforcing social distancing.
“An alcohol-based disinfectant was incorrectly installed by a third party in our hand sanitiser dispensers. We addressed the issue.
“The contactless temperature checking equipment we use is the same as used in other industries, including airports.
“A number of our team members are categorised as key workers, because they play a role in the delivery of essential services to ensure society here in the
UK and overseas can continue to function throughout this pandemic.”
