Tipping Point viewers were outraged by contestant Howard's cheeky excuse to host Ben Shephard when he got an answer wrong.
He was asked which 1986 film featured the original song Take My Breath Away which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Howard faltered and passed on the question, and Ben revealed to him that the correct answer was Tom Cruise film Top Gun.
"That was before my time," shrugged Howard, implying contestants shouldn't be expected know the answers to questions based on previous years.
This didn't go down well with viewers, who do not take kindly to this excuse.
One wrote: " #tippingpoint "It was before I was born" Howard also didn't do too well in History GCSE then."
"Ben is a dirty passed, Val and Hazel need to shut up... did Howard just play the "before my time" token??? I want NONE of them to win #tippingpoint " raged another.
"“Film was before I was born” Klaxon That excuse is the f*****g cancer of this show #tippingpoint " moaned another.
The same excuse has been know to be a cause of contention on another ITV quiz show, The Chase, and a similar uproar was caused this week when a contestant used it.
Kit faced The Governess Anne Hegarty, and was asked about historical events, getting the answers wrong.
Taking to social media, The Chase fans were not happy with Kit's response to host Bradley Walsh's questions.
One took to Twitter, writing: "Great explanation for why he’s guessed wrong". #TheChase "
Elsewhere, another irritated fan commented: "Before my time alert #thechase "
"Before my time klaxon! #TheChase," noted another viewer.
