Furious Steven Gerrard given Rangers red card as boss confronts referee over Alfredo Morelos 'dive'

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard was sent to the stand after he reacted furiously to a yellow card for Alfredo Morelos.

The striker was through on goal against Livingston and knocked the ball past Max Stryjek.

The Colombian international went down under the goalkeeper's challenge and appealed for a penalty but referee John Beaton produced a yellow card for diving.

Replays showed that Morelos was touched by Stryjek as he went through, and the failure to award a spot kick infuriated his manager.

Gerrard marched onto the pitch at half-time to confront Beaton, swearing at the referee as he gestured to the site of the incident.

The Rangers manager then told the official that the decision was "bang out of order", for which he received a yellow card.

The Ibrox boss was still remonstrating as he returned to the dressing room and was shown a second yellow, meaning he was sent to the stands for the second half.

Gerrard will risk a further ban for his actions, and could be barred from the touchline for the clash with St Mirren.
