Furious Steve Bruce hits out at Miguel Almiron's agent over Newcastle quit claims

Steve Bruce has blasted Miguel Amiron's agent for claiming the star winger wants to quit Newcastle United – with Inter Milan interested.

The Newcastle United boss has branded Daniel Campos an “amateur looking to make a fast buck” for hinting the Paraguay international will leave next summer because he wants to play for a team which has more possession.

Bruce says he would be worried if Almiron himself has knocked on his door and told him he was unhappy.

But he reckons Almiron is “grateful” to be on Tyneside.

Bruce said: “If it was Almiron knocking on my door I would listen. But it's an agent trying to profit two years on trying to take him elsewhere.

“Is hugely disrespectful. He is a great kid but the agent leave a lot to be desired.

“I will have a conversation with Miggy. He is an unbelievable pro. Great attitude and appreciated what the club has given him.

“The agent proves to me he is an amateur looking to make a fast buck again.”

Almiron was due to return from international duty today and is available to play against Chelsea on Saturday morning.

He has been played in central midfield rather than in an attacking role recently, and fans have debated whether the team's defensive style, soaking up pressure, is best suited to him.

Earlier this week Almiron's agent Daniel Campos said: “Miguel Almirón was being observed by Atletico Madrid but no offer was made. When everything returns to normal, Miguel will take a leap in quality.

"Miguel’s work rate at Newcastle and Paraguay has been great. If it wasn’t for the pandemic, he would’ve been elsewhere. Perhaps he would like to play on a team that has a lot of possession. Maybe in June, he’ll make that jump."

He later claimed Inter were also interested.

Bruce says top scorer Callum Wilson is training and “available” after recovering fro a hamstring injury in the defeat to Southampton two weeks ago.

However he won't be risked if there is any doubts over his injury.

Ryan Fraser is out, and Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Ritchie have trained all week but will be given more time before being considered to start.
