Furious Scottish families slam 'Free Luke Mitchell' graffiti daubed where children play

Raging Grangemouth locals have hit out after the words "Free Luke Mitchell" were sprawled next to a play park.

Yobs are understood to have vandalised a small electricity building in Zetland Park which is currently going through a £192,000 regeneration project, according to the Daily Record.

Police say the public park has been targeted by youths a number of times in recent weeks.

The latest attack on the park appears to be sparked by a recent channel five documentary covering the murder of teenager Jodi Jones who was killed by her boyfriend Luke Mitchell near her home in Easthouses, Midlothian in 2003.

Mr Mitchell was jailed for a minimum of 20 years in 2005 for the 14-year-old's murder and has failed to overturn his convictions on a number of occasions.

The yobs also wrote "Retrial Now" and "Justice 4 Luke" on the building which is next to a section of the park where children play.

It has caused outrage on social media, with one person saying: This is disgusting, our lovely park targeted by wasters again. What is wring with people?"

Another wrote: "Ffs, I very much doubt this has been a kid, clearly an adult who is setting a poor example to youngsters.

A third posted: "This needs to stop, more patrols are needed in this park, and why would someone write this in Grangemouth.

"The poor girl wasn't here from here. Needs removed asap."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We are aware of the vandalism and carrying out enquiries. Anyone who knows who is responsible, should contact Police Scotland on 101."
