Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley has blasted Prime Minister Liz Truss on his return to the ITV morning show.
The TV presenter, 66, received seemingly endless praise from Good Morning Britain viewers after he called out the Prime Minister for her sudden U-turn on tax cuts during the mini budget last week.
Speaking to Thérèse Coffey - Secretary of State for Health and Social Care - on the ITV programme, Richard took the opportunity to slam Truss after she ditched scrapping the 45p tax rate.
Sharing his thoughts on Truss' sudden U-turn, Richard insisted that the Prime Minister had 'destroyed her credibility' just weeks into her reign in government.
"I suppose the expectation is based on the spectacular U-turn that she, the Prime Minister made, a couple of weeks ago. I mean one day - on a Sunday - she's telling the nation that there's no prospect of a U-turn on the tax reduction.
"But the very next day, we have a U-turn. It's kind of destroyed her credibility hasn't it."
In response, Coffey defended the Tory Prime Minister by insisting that her decision to make the shock U-turn was all for the 'plan for growth'.
Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng confirmed the dramatic Tory U-turn in a now viral tweet last week.
Mr Kwarteng made the surprise announcement on Twitter that the Government would reverse plans to cut the top rate of income tax.
The Chancellor said the proposed tax reduction for those earning more than £150,000 was 'simply a distraction on what was a good set of policies and a strong package'.
The Chancellor said both he and Liz Truss took 'full responsibility' for announcements unveiled the his mini-Budget 10 days ago, but insisted he would not quit.
“I’m announcing we are not proceeding with the abolition of the 45p tax rate,” he said. “We get it, and we have listened. This will allow us to focus on delivering the major parts of our growth package.”
Mr Kwarteng and Prime Minister Truss are understood to have held crisis talks the night before the announcement after it became clear that outrage over the tax cut plans would have dominated the Tory party conference.
The decision to U-turn on the tax cut plans received broad support from Tory MPs, with Mr Gove saying the Chancellor was 'wise' to have changed tack.
“I think Kwasi was absolutely right to recognise for the reasons that he stated that this was not the right tax cut, certainly not the right tax cut at this time and that other elements of the growth plan were more important,” he told Times Radio.
Richard's scathing comment about Prime Minister Liz Truss comes after the Good Morning Britain presenter made his return to the ITV programme on Tuesday morning.
The TV presenter explained that he had been away from the show for so long due to the fact he has been busy finishing writing his latest novel.
