Furious response to Downing Street lockdown party

Boris Johnson has been the focus of a huge outpouring of anger after news broke of a 'bring your own booze' party at Downing Street during lockdown in May 2020.

A leaked email from Johnson's private secretary Martin Reynolds revealed the Number 10 garden bash, with the Prime Minister eventually admitting he had been present for 25 minutes before saying he believed it to be a 'work event.'

The revelations haven't been taken lightly by Manchester Evening News readers with 77% of people who responded to our survey describing themselves as furious and 82% calling for the PM to go.

There were emotional responses among the 1,081 people who completed the survey, with one person writing: "absolutely disgusting, when people lay dying alone, him and his mates were partying."

Another shared their heartbreaking experience, saying: "due to lockdown my partner's funeral wasn't what he would have wanted. I'm furious with the PM."

The people who responded to our survey were not wholly blindsided by the revelations, with 69% stating that they weren't surprised by the news the invitations had been sent.

Tory MP for Hazel Grove, William Wragg. has also called for Johnson to resign.

Those calls will have only intensified with the news emerging after our survey closed that Number 10 held two boozy parties the night before the Queen sat alone for Prince Philip's funeral.
