Furious residents 'trapped' as visitors flock to seaside village near Firth of Forth

Furious residents of a seaside village on the Firth of Forth say they have been trapped by "gridlock chaos" as daytippers flood their picturesque streets with traffic.

The good weather has attracted crowds to local beauty spots around Edinburgh, but locals say they have been overwhelmed by cars.

Blackness resident Jessica Mason took to social media to call for an end to the jams.

She posted a picture of dozens of gridlocked cars, seemingly at a standstill in the village, adding there were not enough parking spaces to accommodate all the visitors.

“Gridlock and chaos in Blackness, and this is before the pub and castle reopens,” Jessica tweeted on Sunday.

“If we want visitors we need places for them to park or we all suffer.

“Residents trapped at weekends, we can't get out the village and if we do we lose our spaces,” she added.

As lockdown eases and the five mile rule is lifted more places will find themselves welcoming returning crowds of visitors.

For some the returning tourists will be we welcome boost to the economy while others will have enjoyed the peace of a summer without the crowds.
