Piers Morgan lashed out at Dr Hilary Jones for defending Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Good Morning Britain.
The atmosphere in the became tense between the two co-stars as Piers furiously branded the prime minister a "bumbling fool" and said that it had become "beyond a joke".
This comes after the PM managed to mangle his own "rule of six" after he was questioned by a journalist and wrongly suggested that it only applied indoors.
He later apologised via Twitter and said that he "misspoke" the day before.
Johnson was later seen at a photo op at a woodwork class in Exeter Collage, neither wearing a mask nor social distancing.
The sight incensed Piers, who ranted: "This prime minister gets even more useless as the days go by!"
"He's just a bumbling fool and this had gone beyond a joke now," Piers raged. "He doesn't even know his simple rule of six."
Dr Hilary attempted to suggest why Johnson had made the mistake and Piers shouted: "Stop defending this clown!"
"I'm not defending him, it's complex," Dr Hilary insisted, but Piers erupted out: "He told us that the rule of six is so simple that's why they brought it in!"
"Visually, work is exempt," Dr Hilary said.
Piers retorted: "Shaving wood is work?!"
After the break, however, Dr Hilary changed his stance as he said that Covid-19 safety procedures should be in place at work.
"This is not covid-safe - he shouldn't be doing that," Dr Hilary admitted.
Piers added: "His actions are going to cost lives."
