Furious mum demands refund for son's wedding after finding out he had a vasectomy

For many parents, the idea of their children growing up and having their own babies is a dream.

Some can even get so excited they overlook their own children's wants and needs.

One woman found herself in a difficult situation with her mother-in-law, after revealing she and her husband were not planning on having kids and that her husband had had a vasectomy.

The mother-in-law had been pressuring them to become parents when the news was revealed, and the family are now in the midst of World War III, reports Mirror Online .

The woman shared all in a post on Reddit's Am I The A**hole thread.

She began by explaining that her mother-in-law has been asking about grandchildren since the couple got engaged, despite them constantly saying it's none of her business.

The couple are now five years into their marriage and are 100 percent sure they don't want to have children - so sure in fact that the husband has had a vasectomy, while the woman has undergone a tubal ligation procedure to sterilise herself.

Over the weekend the couple attended a family BBQ, where once again the topic of children came up.

She said: "When I get up to grab a beer, my mother-in-law (MIL) asks me if maybe I should drink water instead, because wink wink nudge nudge you never know.

"I was annoyed by this and said 'There's really no chance.'

"MIL, all wide-grin, said, 'Oh come on! It's time for you two to finally get serious! Put down the beer and tell us when we can finally expect the two of you to finally make your family official!'"

She claims the conversation continued on like this with the "usual comments" for about 15 minutes, before it all got too much for her.

She continued: "I finally snapped and said, 'MIL, husband got snipped. I had my tubes tied. We're not having kids. You need to stop bringing it up. Period.'

"She started crying and stormed off. Family looked at us with disgust and stormed off to comfort her. We left. Party kinda ended. The social media bulls*** started shortly after. Vague posts, links about how motherhood is a woman's greatest calling, listicles about how unhappy childless women are, etc.

"It's obnoxious to the point that I just muted all of them."

Eventually the mother-in-law called the woman up and said she was willing to put the issues behind them, if they came over and listened to all the reasons why they needed to have kids.

The wife refused which only further angered her husband's mother.

"She said, 'Well then, I guess you two aren't prepared to be real (Lastname)s. I'd like a refund for what we paid for the wedding.' (about $400 for rehearsal dinner)."

The woman added: "I hung up on her. When recounting this to my friends, a few of them said that I was the a**hole for dropping it like that. But I don't think she was ever going to drop it if I didn't finally make a serious, direct comment."

More than 300 people took the time to respond to her post.

One said: "$400 doesn't seem a bad price to shut her down for good. I'd want a receipt though. Not the a**hole."

Another commented: "Not the a**hole. I hate people that are pushy about big life choices. It's not her life, it's not her choice whether you guys have kids or not."
