A driver has been left furious after their car window was allegedly shattered by a concerned passerby who mistook a toy dog for a real puppy.
In a post submitted to popular Facebook page Spotted in Weston-super-Mare, an anonymous user shared pictures and details of the incident - which they claim took place during this week's heatwave, Somerset Live reports.
The post reads: "I returned to my car after leaving it for 20 minutes to do some shopping to find someone has smashed the back window in as they thought my daughter's plush toy dog was a real dog trapped in the heat.
"How can you be this stupid?
"Shame on you."
As well as an image of the smashed window, the post is accompanied by the realistic plush toy that was reportedly left on the back seat of the vehicle.
Despite taking to Facebook apparently to vent their rage, the post was met with a deluge of comments in support of the person who broke into the car.
One commenter wrote: "I would have done the same thing - that does look quite life-like."
A woman added: "Well done to the person who did it thinking it was a real dog, be thankful people care."
Another member of the group parodied the original poster, finding fault with the furious driver.
He said: "I returned to my car after leaving it for 20 minutes to do some shopping to find someone has smashed the back window in as I left a realistic looking dog plush toy in the window and it's the hottest day of the year.
"How can I be so stupid?
"Shame on me."
That particular comment had received more than 60 likes at the time of writing.
