Furious Mikel Arteta suggests VAR official viewed unseen angles of David Luiz red card

Angry Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta insists VAR officials must have decided to send off David Luiz at Wolves after viewing his challenge on Willian Jose from an angle the Gunners boss hadn't seen.

Luiz was dismissed on the stroke of half-time at Molineux after he caught Jose in the penalty area, with Ruben Neves stroking home from the spot.

That brought Wolves level after Nicolas Pepe had given Arsenal the lead, with Joao Moutinho firing home a brilliant winner from distance in the second half.

Arteta says Arsenal will appeal the Luiz red card, a decision he feels completely changed the game.

“It was a big decision that changed the game and if they can justify that they got it right then I will hold up my hands and apologise," said the livid Gunners boss.

“But I've seen the replay 10 times now and I'm sitting here and I still can't see any contact.

“I would like to see if VAR have got a different angle and have seen something I can't see. I'm watching it expecting to see something but I can't.

“Of course it changed the game. We've had to play half the game without David. We dominated the first half and could have been three or four goals up.

“But it's the way we lost that really hurts. It's painful. It's hard enough to win games in the Premier League without that happening.”

On a potential appeal he added: "If I'm sitting here now I would say yes.

"We have to speak with legal at the club and see what the best thing is to do."

Bernd Leno was also sent off in the second period after he handled the ball outside of his area, but Arteta refused to be too critical of the goalkeeper.

"I imagine he makes the decision in a split of a second and naturally he tries to stop the ball," he said.

"There's nothing he can do."
