Furious Mick McDermott says Glentoran considering Co Antrim Shield final withdrawal

A fuming Mick McDermott says Glentoran are considering pulling out of next week's Co Antrim Shield final.

The Glens are due to meet Larne in the decider next Wednesday night at Seaview.

The game was originally earmarked for Tuesday but was pushed back 24 hours due to the venue being used for a Northern Ireland Women's Euro qualifier.

McDermott voiced his concerns over player welfare due to less recovery time for both teams between Wednesday and their Premiership games three days later.

He has also questioned holding the final at Seaview which has an artificial surface similar to what Larne play on at Inver Park.

Asked if Glentoran had considered withdrawing from next week's final, McDermott said: "Yes, we have. At this point we haven't."

McDermott - whose Glentoran side are still without a win in the Premiership this season - said the club could still pull out of the game.

"Anything's possible. That's our prerogative," he added.

"Ballymena United withdrew. When people show you no respect you have to speak up."

When contacted about McDermott's quotes, a Co Antrim FA spokesperson said it would "not be appropriate to provide any comment".
