Arsenal legend Ian Wright insists Granit Xhaka must apologise to supporters if he is to have any real future at the club.

The Gunners captain clashed with home supporters in an extraordinary incident during Sunday’s 2-2 with Crystal Palace, appearing to tell fans to “f*** off” when the decision to substitute him was greeted with sarcastic cheers and booing.

Dissecting the incident on Sunday’s Match of the Day, former striker Wright insisted Xhaka was firmly in the wrong.

“We’re talking about fans who have watched him play a handful of good games in three years. And he’s treating them like that,” Wright said.

“He should apologise. That’s the guy Arsenal have chosen as captain… that’s not captain behaviour. Arsenal fans have been patient with him. He owes them a lot more than that.”

Wright added: “He’s got the responsibility. You can’t go on like that. He’s the captain. The manager has faith in him and he’s done that.”
