Furious homeowner given £43 fine for parking on his own property

A homeowner was fuming after he was given a hefty fine for parking on his own property.

Kazi Islam has been ordered to pay $75 Canadian Dollars (£43) after leaving his white SUV partially on the front lawn of his home.

The man, of Brampton, Canada, said he has for more than 10 years parked his vehicle on an angle on his paved front walkway with one wheel on the front of his lawn.

But he was furious to find the parking ticket this week for stopping in an "unauthorized area".

"I still can’t believe that I got a ticket for parking on my own driveway.

"This is ridiculous. This is totally ridiculous," Mr Islam told CTV News .

The homeowner said he has never had any complaints about his parking in the past.

But the authority, which governs the city of around 600,000 people, said Mr Islam shouldn't have parked on any parts of the grass - regardless whether it was part of his property or not.

A statement by City of Brampton Council reads: "Mr Islam was given the ticket because enforcement officers found a vehicle was parked on a large portion of the grass area (landscape) at this property.

"The By-Law prohibits parking of vehicles on the landscaped area of properties, both public and private."

It added the city’s parking rules are similar to other municipalities and they’re designed for the safety and upkeep of the community.

The city has already received more than 250 similar parking complaints this year alone, CTV says.
