Furious golfer punched pensioner, 70, in slow play row before continuing round

A teed-off golfer punched a pensioner in the face in a Happy Gilmore-style brawl over slow play.

Justin Lowe, 41, took a swing at pensioner James Claridge during the bust-up on the 15th fairway.

The older golfer had become frustrated at being stuck behind Lowe and his pals for 11 holes.

He made remarks to the group to hurry up from the 4th hole onwards at Ferndown Forest Golf Club in Dorset.

Things finally came to a head on the difficult par 4 15th when Mr Claridge shouted at them to “get a move on”.

It sparked a furious response from Lowe, who marched up to his fellow golfer and went “face to face” with him.

He then punched Mr Claridge, who is in his 70s, in the face, leaving him crumpled on the ground.

Lowe, from Bournemouth, continued with his round but was arrested when he got back to the clubhouse.

The ugly incident resembled a scene in the Adam Sandler film Happy Gilmore.

In the legendary clip, a hot-headed golfer is knocked unconscious by TV host Bob Barker.

Lowe, who runs an ice cream kiosk, admitted one charge of assault by beating.

He was ordered by magistrates in Poole to pay his victim £100 compensation and £85 prosecution costs.
