Furious gamer devastated after buying '£450 doorstop' Xbox Series X

A furious gamer has hit out after buying a faulty Xbox Series X console which he has labelled a £450 ‘doorstop’.

Dane Weymes rushed out to pick up the new gaming device from Smyths Toys as soon as it opened at 7am on November 10.

But the 26-year-old was devastated after the machine appeared ‘dead’ and ‘constantly crashed’ after setting it up at his home in Hull, the Manchester Evening News reports.

The console flew off the shelves around the globe on Tuesday after pre-orders for the machine opened and sold out within minutes back in September.

Dane, a phone repair business owner, has been left waiting for advice from Microsoft after Smyths Toys said they were unable to help.

The avid gamer said: "I pre-ordered the Xbox Series X and picked it up first thing from Smyths at 7am, but as soon as I got it home, I just couldn't get it to work.

"I have been trying to faff with it and fix it all day but it crashes all the time, shows green dots everywhere and no one is available to help me out so I'm stuck with a dead console, well, stuck with a brick, basically.

"It is a £450 doorstop at the moment as it's about as much use as that.

"I'm really disappointed that I can't get it to work and that Microsoft haven't got back to me.

"I've waited months for it and then I'll be stuck with it for the next few months if it can't be fixed, as they are sold out everywhere.

"All my friends' Xbox Series X consoles are working, but I've seen on Twitter that someone else had the same problem so it's more than just me with this issue.

"I've been left in the dark and I was really looking forward to playing the new Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed on it, as the game can only be used on this new console."

The Xbox Series X is all about power and performance, and is said to be so fast that it virtually eliminates loading times.

Despite, teething issues with the Xbox Live network crashing and the BBC iPlayer not functioning on the first day, other gamers didn't have the same problems as Dane.

Microsoft says the next generation console is capable of processing games in 8K definition and can render huge virtual worlds not seen in any console before it.

Microsoft has been contacted for further comment.
