Furious Edinburgh local captures moment water main bursts cutting off supply for hundreds of homes

A furious resident has captured the moment a water main burst onto a busy Edinburgh road after a major blunder.

Hundreds of homes in the EH8 area of the capital were left without proper running water for a number of hours.

It's understood that the water main, in the Jock's Lodge area, burst amid ongoing works that were being carried out on the road.

One local, who filmed water spilling onto the street, blasted the incident as a "joke" and said "they broke the water mains".

A team from Scottish Water worked through the night to carry out the "complex repair", with a fire hydrant also left damaged.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said that around 925 properties were affected, with bottled water delivered to the most vulnerable residents in the area.

They said: “Our operatives attended a burst water main and damaged fire hydrant as a result of works by a third party in the EH8 area of Edinburgh last night.
