Furious diners have accused a Vietnamese restaurant of breaking the law and profiteering over their decision to stop serving tap water.
The Viet 80s is a popular eatery with diners in Nottingham, but has sparked fury after announcing the ban on the free water.
But the diner has said it has stopped serving tap water over an outbreak of e.coli in water supplies in Kent and Surrey - 170 miles away.
A spokesperson for Viet 80s said: "We no longer provide tap water in the restaurant.
"Sorry for this inconvenience."
"Please do not hesitate to ask our staff for more details."

In the social media post it added a link to a news article about the e.coli fears in the south-east.
It continued: "The restaurant's food is very secure. We do not want for any reason to affect the quality of food as well as the health and safety of customers.
"We also serve hot tea for every customer so please do not worry about not serving tap water."
But one diner Rebekah Quintana fumed: "I am sure it's illegal for you to refuse tap water.
"It seems you want to make money.
"Not a good move guys, and I love your restaurant and atmosphere, you guys are great.
"But you are pushing it. You are legally forced to provide tap water."

Another customer Pete Brooksbank said: "Bit confused.
"What's an e.coli outbreak in Surrey got to do with your ability to provide tap water in Nottingham?"
Natasha Hunter echoed this and said: "That's not fair, as the outbreak is in Surrey."
Amy Beck added: "Not everyone wants or likes tea and you're posting about an outbreak at the other end of the country."
Clara Gonzalez said: "So you're ok with customers bringing their own bottled water if they're buying other drinks and food from you?"
Viet 80s has beer, wines and spirits on its menu.
Under UK law, restaurants that serve alcohol must offer free tap water.
Viet 80s has been approached for further comment.
