A dad was left infuriated after queuing up for over an hour to get inside Home Bargains in Leeds before coming out of the store to a hefty parking fine.
The father was given a £100 parking charge by ParkingEye after spending more than an hour parked outside the discount shop in Roundhay Road, Oakwood on April 26.
He says that his wife and children remained in the car while he patiently queued to get inside.
Due to the coronavirus lockdown and restrictions in place which prevent lots of customers from being in the same store at once, the dad said he had no choice but to queue.
This meant he was parked outside the store for one hour and 47 minutes and in turn, meant he was handed a fine.
He said: "I went to the Home Bargains store for my regular shopping and due to current lockdown I was waiting in the queue for more than one hour.
"My wife and my kids were inside the car all the time while I was shopping but shockingly a couple of days later I was fined by ParkingEye who stated that I had stayed in the car park for longer than one hour."
The parking fine would have been halved to £50 had it been paid by May 13 but the dad has appealed the decision.
A spokesman for ParkingEye said: “The motorist submitted an appeal yesterday, this will be reviewed in the coming days and he will be informed of the decision once made.
“ParkingEye is a member of the BPA (British Parking Association) and operate a fully audited appeals process, where anyone with any mitigating circumstances can appeal. Details of how to follow this process is on all correspondence.”
