Furious Celtic fans defy police warning as 'sack the board' chant rings loud outside Parkhead

Angry Celtic fans are congregating outside Parkhead despite police warnings over a lockdown protest as the focus of fans' fury appears to transfer from beleaguered boss Neil Lennon to the club's power brokers.

Chants of "sack the board" are being reported as fans make their feelings known after another wretched performance in the 1-1 draw with St Johnstone.

Chief Superintendent Mark Sutherland had warned on Friday that anyone intending to demonstrate should find another way to make their displeasure know amid the pandemic.

He said: “We are aware of a proposed demonstration outside Celtic Park on Sunday and would urge people to find alternative ways to protest, such as online, to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

“The Scottish Government regulations are quite clear that these types of protest are prohibited in areas under level four restrictions.

A ring of steel fencing was erected around Paradise in recent days in a bid to head off scenes like those that were witnessed after the 2-0 defeat to Ross County.

It comes after three police officers were injured on a chaotic night as players were pelted with objects and abused upon leaving the ground.

The Hoops now sit 13 points behind bitter rivals Rangers in the most important season in a generation, albeit with two games in hand.

Lennon 's men have the chance to win a tenth title in a row, something that has never been achieved in Scottish football history but that quest is fading with each passing game.
