Funso Ojo to Aberdeen as Dons look set to beat Hibs to signature

Aberdeen look set to beat Hibs to the signature of Funso Ojo.

Both clubs had agreed a £150,000 fee with Scunthorpe and were given permission to hold talks with their midfielder.

Record Sport Online understands that the 27-year-old travelled north and had talks with Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom on Wednesday and is now at Pittodrie.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes turned his attentions to Ojo after he hit a brick wall trying to bring Dylan McGeouch in from Sunderland.

Ojo has previously had spells at PSV Eindhoven, Beerschot, Royal Antwerp, FC Dordrecht and Willem II.

McInnes is looking to get the deal done so if Aberdeen progress in the Europa League they can get Ojo registered.

Aberdeen are short of midfield options with new signing Craig Bryson still not 100 per cent fit after summer surgery.

McInnes had said after their 2-1 first-leg win over RoPS that he had left the pursuit of Ojo to his director of football Russ Richardson.

He confirmed: “We’ve had a few bids in for a few players. “A couple have been accepted and we haven’t got the signing done but I’ve left that with my recruitment team.

“I’m not sure where it is at the minute but except from Gallagher, which was one which came up in our talks with Atlanta, every signing has been where we have faced competition.”

It is a blow to Hibs because they thought they had a deal with Ojo earlier in the summer and they could get him out on a free but they missed that particular deadline.

Heckingbottom then went back in but Aberdeen look to have the financial muscle to get the deal over the line.
