Funso Ojo: Hibs battling Aberdeen for Scunthorpe United midfielder

Hibs are battling Aberdeen for the signature of Sucunthorpe Utd’s Belgian midfielder Funso Ojo.

The Easter Road club were reportedly close to agreeing a deal with the player earlier in the transfer window after a relegation clause in the player’s contract came in to effect .

Scunthorpe thought differently however, prompting the players’ agent to accuse the club of blocking his client’s exit.

Chairman Peter Swann dismissed the agent’s claims however, and insisted Ojo reported back for the start of pre-season training.

It appears a deal could be back on however. Reports emerged earlier today that Scunthorpe had accepted two bids for the 27-year-old, which Edinburgh Live understands to be from Hibs and Ladbrokes Premiership rivals Aberdeen.

It's thought both have offers of around £125,000 accepted.

Paul Heckingbottom is in need of a defensive midfielder after Marvin Bartley and Mark Milligan moved on in the summer.

An injury to Vykintas Slivka has made that a matter of priority and their interest in Ojo has been rekindled despite the previous discouragement from Scunthorpe.
