'Funny, outgoing and larger than life' dad died after devastating diagnosis

A dad and business owner described as "larger than life" died after a three-year battle with cancer.

Chris Lesbirel, a much-loved business owner and dad-of-two, died on Saturday, January 28, following a three-year battle with prostate cancer. The 65-year-old was brought up in Huyton before moving to Southport where he opened the first Shoemaster shop in Southport Market. He then opened another Shoemaster shop in Bootle before the family venture spread out across Merseyside.

His daughter Michelle, owner of Vanity Hair Salon in Birkdale, told the ECHO yesterday: "He was funny, kind, caring, told silly jokes, was very loyal and he had lots of friends.

"He had a great work ethic, he was a good dad and good grandad. He was good with the family. He was a good Everton fan and was loved by a lot of people."

Since the news broke, people have paid tribute to Chris. Elle Bees wrote: "So so sad, Chris was a really funny outgoing and larger than life kind of guy. RIP.

"Thinking of the family."

Shelly Chambers said: "Sorry for your loss. l remember Chris had a shop in Broadway."

Bernadette Moran paid tribute: "Really sorry to hear this, we knew Chris from Southport Market, sending condolences to all of his family & friends."

Ann Perry said: "I worked for Chris in many of his shops including Huyton, Maghull and Kirkby. He was a lovely man. RIP."
