Feb. 11--Funeral services will be held this weekend for the six family members, including two children, who were found slain inside of their Gage Park home on the Southwest Side.
The victims were discovered about 1 p.m. Thursday at their home in the 5700 block of South California Avenue after one of them failed to show up for work, officials said.
They have been identified as Rosaura Martinez, 58; her husband, Noe Martinez Sr., 62; their son Noe Martinez Jr., 38; their daughter Maria Herminia Martinez, 32; and the daughter's sons, Leonardo Cruz, 13, and Alexis Cruz, 10, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office and relatives of the victims.
A private viewing for the family will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the House of Branch at 3115 W. Roosevelt Road, according to Dawn Valenti, a crisis responder working closely with their family. The funeral will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Gall Catholic Church at 5511 S. Sawyer Ave., she said.
The Mexican Consulate in Chicago has said the four adults will be taken to Guanajuanto in central Mexico for burial, and the children will go to Morelos, Mexico. The victims' relatives said they have raised more than $26,000 through GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses.
Autopsies found that Maria Martinez died of multiple gunshot wounds, and the rest died of either multiple sharp-force injuries or multiple blunt-and sharp-force injuries. All the deaths were ruled homicides.
On Wednesday morning, the crime tape was removed from the home and cleaning crews began working inside.
