Funeral set for tragic Scots teen cyclist killed in bus crash as family 'overwhelmed' by support

The mum of a young Scots school boy who died after being knocked off his bike by a bus has issued her heartfelt thanks to the community.

Jay Gallacher’s family say they have been ‘overwhelmed’ by the generosity and kindness shown to them by everyone since losing their beloved son on June 5.

The 15-year-old suffered fatal injuries after being run down on Church Street in Harthill while riding his beloved bicycle.

The 15-year-old's family say he had a 'heart of gold' (UGC)

His relatives previously told how the S4 pupil had ' a heart of gold’ and ‘a cheeky smile that would light up a room’.

A fundraiser was launched to help the family plan a memorial for young Jay who will be laid to rest on Monday, June 21.

In a touching statement issued via the Harthill Community Facebook page, mum Ann said: “I just want to say a huge thank you to each and everyone one of you that have messaged, sent cards, and even hugged me when I really needed it.

“Also the generosity has been well and truly overwhelming to us all as a family, from my own family, friends, residents from my home town and even strangers, and I can't thank you all enough.

“I'd like to share with you all that the total to date raised via the Go Fund Me page has been an outstanding total of £4,845.34 (after fees).

“Just shows how much Jay's passing has affected not just us as a family but the wider community.

“Jay is very much missed and I still can't believe what's happened, our family will never be the same. So once again I thank you all.”
