Funeral of 'much-loved' Weston General Hospital worker to be live-streamed on YouTube

The funeral of a "much-loved" hospital worker will be held next week and streamed live on YouTube.

Amarante Dias who worked at Weston General Hospital sadly died with coronavirus last Monday (April 13).

His funeral is set to take place on Friday (April 24) at the Weston-super-Mare crematorium between 12pm and 4:30pm.

However, as per current government guidelines only ten people can attend the funeral, which includes the priest, spouse, children and the camera man.

But, for everyone who knew and loved Amarante, you'll be able to view the funeral and requiem mass on YouTube, the Weston Super Mare Association of Malayalees has said.

Talking about the death of Amarante last week, Dr William Oldfield, medical director at the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS trust, said: "We are deeply saddened at losing Amarante Dias who was such a valued and much-loved colleague.

“On behalf of everyone at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, including our patients and the communities we serve, I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to his family.

“Amarante will be greatly missed and we are ensuring that staff have access to support to help them at this difficult time.

“We will not be commenting further and ask that everybody respects the privacy of the family at their request."

You can watch the livestream of the funeral here on Friday.
