Funeral of Brian Black to take place on Monday

The funeral of former UTV presenter Brian Black is set to take place on Monday.

Mr Black died after his car entered the water at Strangford Harbour in Co Down on Tuesday.

Brian, aged in his 70s, was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital following the incident, but sadly died a short time after.

The beloved husband of Lesley and father-of-two initially presented the current affairs programme Counterpoint and then switched to become UTV's environment correspondent.

In more recent years he had worked as a programme maker for UTV, producing a programme on the refurbishment and reopening of Mount Stewart.

The grandfather-of-one was also Arctic sailor who had great environmental concerns, including the deteriorating condition of the Arctic.

A funeral directors said those 'those wishing to pay their respects while observing social distancing may do so as Brian’s funeral cortege makes its way through Strangford'.

This will take place at approximately 1.50pm on Monday, August 10 as it makes its way to Roselawn Crematorium.

Brian's family requested that in lieu of flowers, donations could be made if desired to the Conservation of Arctic Fauna and Flora or the RNLI.
