Funeral for tragic young Galway man Eoin Fahey killed in bike accident in Scotland to be held today

A tragic young Galway man who died in an accident in Scotland will be laid to rest this afternoon.

Eoin Fahey, 33, was killed after his bike collided with a heavy goods vehicle in Fort William in the Scottish Highlands on Tuesday, August 6.

The Corofin native was cycling along the A830 in the Blar Mhor area when he was hit at around 7.35pm that evening.

Mr Fahey was pronounced dead at the scene and the truck driver was uninjured, The Irish Sun reports.

Tributes have been paid to the young man who was an avid mountaineer.

Galway Mountain Rescue shared a tribute on their Facebook page, remembering Mr Fahey.

It said: "The team was saddened to learn of the untimely death of Eoin Fahey from Corofin, Co. Galway. Eoin (centre) was an avid mountaineer and a long standing friend to the team.

"He will be sorely missed both on and off the hill. Our thoughts and prayers are with Eoin's family and friends at this difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis."

One person commented: "Eoin was always so kind and helpful. A genuinely lovely lad RIP".

Mr Fahey's body was taken home to his native Galway where his funeral will be held today.

A death notice on RIP.ie reads: "Deeply regretted by his heartbroken family, parents John and Marie, brother Diarmuid,sisters Roisin and Aisling, brother-in-law John and adoring nephew Ruairi.

"Sadly missed by his family, uncles, aunts, cousins and extended family and friends."

A wake was held in the Fahey home yesterday evening and a Funeral Mass will be held in St. Colman's Church, Corofin today at 1.30pm.

He will be buried afterwards in Kilmoylan Cemetery.

Family flowers only, donations if desired may be made to Galway Mountain Rescue.
