Funeral for tragic Irish girl Emmy Eckert, 5, to take place in Ballincollig, Co Cork next week

A tragic little Irish girl will be laid to rest in Cork next week following her untimely death.

Emmy Eckert, five, from Ballincollig died while on holiday with her family in Germany.

It's understood the tot was at a lake with her parents Andreas and Darlene and her three siblings when she got into difficulty.

Paramedics were called to the scene and Emmy was taken to hospital but she failed to regain consciousness.

Emmy's parents work at VMWare in Cork and the little girl was a pupil at Scoil Mhuire in Ballincollig.

A text alert was sent out to all parents of kids in Emmy's class on Thursday when school staff found out about her passing.

Both of Emmy's parents are members of the local Bible Baptist Activity Centre where Emmy’s funeral service will be held next week.

A funeral notice on RIP.ie reads: "Emmy Sophia (aged five years), dearly loved daughter of Andreas and Darlene and loving sister of Johannes, Paula, and Josef.

"Sadly missed by her heartbroken parents, brothers, sister, grandparents, extended family and her school friends from Scoil Mhuire."

A wake will be held for the Emmy at Crowley’s Funeral Home, Ballincollig on Sunday, August 18, from 4pm to 5.30pm.

Her funeral service will take place at 11am on Monday, August 19, at the Bible Baptist Activity Centre, Unit A, Innishmore Business Park, Innishmore, Ballincollig (rear of Lidl) (Eircode P31 Y954), followed by burial at St Oliver’s Cemetery.

A friend of Emmy's family Darren Lauser has set up a GoFundMe appeal in aid of the family which has already raised €8,453 out of a €12,000 goal.

Darren said: "Please help my friend.

"When your five-year-old dies suddenly from an accident, it is hard enough without the stress of financial pressure.

"Please join me, and others of like precious faith, in bearing this burden."
