Funeral details of Laura Connolly killed in hit-and-run announced as Donegal bride-to-be laid to rest

Tragic bride-to-be Laura Connolly who died in a hit-and-run in Donegal will be laid to rest on Thursday.

Laura, 34, was killed after she was knocked down as she was returning from a night out with friends in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The Donegal woman is survived by her partner Joe McCullagh and the couple’s young son Jamie.

The couple, who were teenage sweethearts, were due to tie the knot next year according to friends.

A funeral mass will take place in Lifford this week.

A death notice on RIP.ie reads: "Cherished daughter of Rosemary and Jimmy, much loved partner of Joe, dearly loved mother of Jamie, loving sister of James, Jamie and the late baby Theresa and beloved granddaughter of Theresa and the late Andy Connolly and the late Rose and Foncie Brennan.

"Funeral leaving her home on Thursday (July 15th) at 10a.m. for Requiem Mass in St Patrick`s Church, Murlog, Lifford at 11a.m. Interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

"Deeply regretted by her heartbroken parents, partner, son, brother granny and family circle."

Earlier this week a Donegal priest has told of how the community has been left in 'deep shock' following Laura's sudden death.

Speaking on Highland Radio, Lifford Parish Priest Fr Colm O'Doherty said: "Words cannot really sum up how people are feeling or the sense of complete shock that's in the family circle and in the wider community .

"It's a very close-knit community where Laura lived. Everybody knows everybody. It's just an absolute tragedy. It's very very hard to put into words."

Fr O'Doherty added that the community had been rallying support for the family in such a difficult time.

He said: "It's so so moving. She was looking forward to new beginnings in life and it just wasn't to be.

"God love her mother yesterday was saying to me they were like sisters more than mother and daughter.

"Laura was the star of the family and she'll be terribly missed."

Friends say Laura had been browsing for wedding dresses in nearby Strabane earlier in the day and had decided to go out with friends later that night.

Laura was returning home from a night out in the early hours of this morning and had just said goodbye to a friend as she walked towards Townspark, Lifford on the N15 road.

However, she was struck by a white van which failed to remain at the scene.

Laura was rushed by ambulance to Letterkenny University Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
