Funeral details for tragic Westmeath dad Danny McCormack who died after being arrested in A&E announced

A dad who died after being arrested and removed from the A&E department of the Midlands Regional Hospital in Westmeath, will be laid to rest this Thursday.

Father of three Danny McCormack, 40, from Mullingar had attended the hospital after complaining of chest pains on Saturday.

But security and Gardai were called after he argued that after being examined, he should not have been discharged.

When he returned home after being briefly detained he collapsed and later died at the same hospital.

The Garda Ombudsman GSOC and the HSE are investigating the circumstances which led to his sudden death.

A funeral notice on RIP.ie reads: "He will be deeply missed by his heartbroken wife Hazel, his adored children, Daniel, Caragh and Grace, his mother Mary, brothers Peter, Noel, David and Robert, sister Geraldine, grandmother Christina, his aunt Dolores, god-mother Assumpta, mother-in-law Chrissie, father-in-law Michael, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends."

A Funeral Mass will take place in the Cathedral of Christ the King kin Mullingar on Thursday, March 28, at 10am followed burial in Ballyglass Cemetery.

His family have requested family flowers only, donations, if desired, may be made to the Irish Heart Foundation.

Garda watchdog launches investigation after man dies after being released from custody in Mullingar, Co Westmeath 

The man, from Raheen in Mullingar, was on Monday night described as being “devoted to his family” by locals.

On his initial visit to hospital Mr McCormack was treated within 15 minutes.

But he told staff he wanted to be admitted, which led to a row.

Detectives helped remove him and he was brought to Mullingar Garda station.

About 30 minutes later, Mr McCormack was brought home where he collapsed in front of his mother-in-law as his wife Hazel was still at the hospital.

Mr McCormack was returned by ambulance but was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

Gardai handed over their investigation to the ombudsman on Monday and it will examine the events leading up to his death.

The Health Service Executive will carry out its own separate enquiry and probe the circumstances of why Mr McCormack was allowed home.

A post-mortem was carried out on Monday by State Pathologist Michael Curtis, which revealed Mr McCormack suffered a heart attack.
