Funeral details for Richie Carberry, 39, shot dead outside his home in Bettystown, Co Meath announced

An Irishman shot dead outside his home will be laid to rest on Saturday.

Richie Carberry, 39, was killed when a gunman opened fire outside his home in Bettystown, Co Meath just before midnight on Monday night.

He had returned to his house and was closing the gate of his home in Castlemartin Drive after stepping out of his Audi car.

The father-of-three was hit at least three times by the gunman who sprayed bullets from a machine pistol, hitting three cars in the process.

His wife Eileen and his daughters tried to help him until paramedics arrived on the scene but he died just over an hour after he arrived at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Mr Carberry, originally from Coolock in North Dublin, knew he was a marked man and had installed bulletproof glass in his windows after his home was shot at last March.

Sources said he was heavily involved in the drugs trade and was aligned to one of the gangs in the Drogheda drugs feud which claimed the life of its first victim, Keith Branigan in Clogherhead, Co Louth, last August.

A death notice on RIP.ie reads: "Beloved husband of Eileen, loving father of Codie, Charlie and Callum, son of Peter and the late Mary, and brother of James and Steven.

"He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, children, father, brothers, parents-in-law Celia and Dillo, his father’s partner Treasa, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and a large circle of friends."

Mr Carberry will lie in repose at his home on Friday, November 8, from 5:30pm for family and close friends.

His Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, November 9, at 11am at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Laytown, Co Meath followed by burial at Dardistown Cemetery in Dublin.
