Funeral details for Mayo man Brendan Kilduff shot dead by elderly pal announced

The man who was shot dead in Co Mayo by an elderly friend who mistook him for an intruder will be laid to rest on Saturday.

Farmer Brendan Kilduff was tragically killed on Tuesday night at the front door of 85-year-old Martin Caufield's home in Ballyhaunis.

Mr Kilduff had called to the home in the Coogue area to pick up a mobile phone he left there before joining a beef protest.

His removal will take place at Marian Funeral Home, Knock from 6pm until 8pm on Friday.

A funeral mass will be held at The Church of Saint John The Baptist the following day.

A funeral notice said: "Reposing at the Marian Funeral Home, Knock (F12 A726) on Friday from 6 o'clock until 8 o'clock.

"Removal on Saturday morning to The Church of Saint John The Baptist, Knock for Mass at 12.00 noon. Burial afterwards in the local cemetary."

Mr Kilduff, whose brother John is deceased, will be remembered fondly by his sisters Marian and Bernadette, as well as his extended family, friends and neighbours.

Mr Caulfield was arrested following the tragic shooting but was released by gardai on Wednesday. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
