The funeral for Firwood Bootle cricket legend Phil Gill will be held on Wednesday 8 January at Christ Church Bootle.
The service begins at 11:30am before moving to Thornton Crematorium at 12:40pm. Friends and family are then gathering at Firwood Bootle Cricket Club.
In a post shared on social media, Bootle wrote: "RIP Philip Marshall Gill.
"It is with a very heavy and saddened heart we post the news today of our very own lifelong member Phil Gill, affectionately known to us all as ‘Gilly’, who has passed peacefully away on Wednesday 18th December surrounded by his loving family.
"Gilly started his cricket life whilst living with his family in their house actually on the site of Bootle Cricket Club, Wadham Road whilst his dad Harry Gill was the dedicated groundsman.
"Phil played cricket for all the teams and was 1st XI captain from 1974-1979 with wife Brenda by his side as his constant rock.
"He always took a very active role in overseeing the ground whilst introducing both his boys, Andrew and Michael, to his love of cricket life.
"Phil was a strong active committee member for far too many years to count and later he became chairman of the club, first in 1986 and again 1993 as a main part of the development of the work that went into building the new clubhouse in 2003.
"He was also as a long-term vice-president when he finally bestowed the greatest honour of becoming president of Firwood Bootle Cricket Club in 2017-2018.
"Gilly was a man of all seasons of cricket and life who’s knowledge was well-respected through the world of local cricket and will be greatly missed by one and all.
"Our heartfelt sincere condolences go out to Brenda, Andrew and Michael and not forgetting Phil’s sister Judy along with the rest of the family at this difficult time and hope that Phil’s love of Bootle Cricket Club Family will bring them all some comfort and support in their quiet times ahead.
