Cork bus crash: Funeral details announced of bus driver who died in tragic incident

The funeral of a bus driver who died after suffering a heart attack at the wheel will be live-streamed on Saturday.

Mark Wills died on Tuesday, August 3 after suffering a suspected heart attack while driving for Bus Eireann on the Strand Road in Monkstown.

The bus had been travelling up the Strand Road when Mark, a father to two teenage children, suffered the suspected heart attack and ploughed into the cars opposite to him.

Fr Con Cronin had been crossing the road with his colleague, parish secretary Cathy Concannon, when she alerted him to the danger and he reacted by pushing her out of the way.

Fr Cronin was hit by the bus and despite the best efforts of medics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tributes poured in last night for the beloved priest as well as the bus driver who lost their lives in the tragic incident.

Lord Mayor of Cork City Colm Kelleher led the tributes and sent his condolences to both of their families and friends.

The Ballincollig Cllr said: "It's with great sadness to hear of the incident in Monkstown where two people sadly lost their lives. My thoughts and prayers go out to Fr Con Cronin and Mark who was well known in the village here.

"He was a gentleman and a great soul who always had a smile on his face. I'm thinking about both of their families and friends today. May they rest in peace.

"I would like also like to sincerely thank the emergency services for all their work and assistance at the scene."

Mark will be laid to rest on Saturday and his family announced his funeral details on Rip.ie this morning.

"On August 3rd 2021, unexpectedly, Mark (late of Bus Eireann), loving father of Cillian and Rebecca, beloved son of Stephen and Madelene and brother of Gwen, his twin Stephen, Brian and Ken.
