Funeral details announced for RTE broadcasting legend Larry Gogan

Funeral details have been announced for RTE legend, Larry Gogan.

The Montrose icon died aged 81-years-old, RTE confirmed. He was best known for his work on RTE's 2FM, where he worked as a DJ for 40 years.

The funeral is set to take place at the end of the week with the removal to the Church of St Pius X in Templeogue on Thursday.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday morning at 11.30 am followed by a private burial.

A post on Rip.ie reads: “Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, in the care of Kiltipper Woods Care Centre. Beloved husband of the late Florrie and much loved father of Gerard, Orla, David, Gráinne and Sinéad.

“Very deeply missed by his loving family, daughters-in-law Niamh and Susan, sons-in-law Tom, Stuart and Rory, grandchildren David, Holly, Jodie, Nikki, Jorja, Noah, Jamie, Ben, Isaac, Poppi, Zoë and Seb, sisters Marie and Eileen, brothers Tom and Niall, extended family, colleagues and many friends.”

Larry’s family has also expressed gratitude to Blackrock Clinic, Beacon Renal and the staff at Kiltipper Woods Care Centre for “the wonderful care that he received during his final illness”.

The family has also asked for any donations in his memory to be given to the Irish Kidney Association.

Originally from Fairview, Dublin, he was best known for his infamous Just A Minute quiz.

According to RTE, Mr Gogan had been ill in recent years.

He is predeceased by his wife Florrie and is survived by his five children and grandchildren.

Dee Forbes, Director General, RTÉ said: "Larry Gogan was a legend, and a genuine national institution.

"He transcended generations – whether it was a hilarious moment on the Just a Minute Quiz, the breakneck countdown of the weekly top 40, or the first play of a Christmas song – Larry didn’t just preserve these traditions, he created them.

"Legendary, cross-generational, universally popular: The Golden Hour and the “Just a Minute Quiz” were national institutions, just the like the man himself.

"He returns now to his beloved Florrie - we are the poorer for his loss, but the richer for having known this gentleman of the airwaves."
