Funeral details announced for Dublin mum killed in horror samurai sword attack

Funeral details have been announced for a popular Dublin mum who was stabbed to death with a samurai sword in her home.

Jean Eagers, 57, was killed during the horrific incident in Hartstown, North Dublin, last Sunday.

Neighbours said Jean, her husband William and children Dillon, 23, and 30-year-old Michelle were a “quiet family” who had lived at Willow Wood Grove for nearly 30 years.

The victim’s colleagues from Marks and Spencer and other friends left floral tributes outside her home last week.

Wendy Smith, who had worked with Jean at Marks & Spencer in Blanchardstown for the past 16 years, told RTE News: “She was absolutely just an amazing lady.

“She was so, so kind. She was always bubbly. A lovely person.”

Another neighbour, whose son attended St Ciaran’s National School with Dillon, paid tribute to Jean.

She said: “She was a lovely woman. The whole family was.

“Young Dillon was a lovely lad. They were a normal family.

“I can’t get my head around it. Everyone is shocked.” The woman added the victim, who also worked as a cab driver, previously did taxi runs for the St Francis Hospice.

She said: “Jean always kept herself well. You wouldn’t take her for late 50s.” Another resident added: “She was very glamorous.”

And Jean's family have now confirmed that her funeral service will take place on Saturday.

A post on RIP.ie reads: "Adored mother of Michelle and Dillon, daughter of the late Frank and Peggy and beloved sister of her brothers. Sadly missed by her loving family and friends.

"A private funeral will take place due to government advice regarding public gatherings.

"Jean’s funeral cortege will leave the church and pass her home at Willow Wood Grove at 12.15pm on Saturday, June 27, on her way to the Crematorium.

"Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, to St. Francis Hospice, Blanchardstown."
