Funeral arrangements for Ashfield councillor who died from coronavirus

The arrangements for the funeral of Tributes have been paid to a "passionate" and "trusted" councillor, Anthony (Tony) Neil Brewer have been announced.

Councillor Brewer died at King's Mill Hospital on Tuesday, April 7, at the age of 74.

Tributes were paid to the family man, who was described as a "staunch supporter" of the armed forces and a believer "in the underdog".

The council also set up a book of remembrance on its website - encouraging residents and friends to pay tribute to the much-loved politician.

The funeral for the late chairman of Ashfield District Council will take place, on Friday, April 24 at 2.15pm at Mansfield Crematorium.

Councillor Brewer will be making his final journey from his home on Wheatfield Way in Skegby at 1.40pm.

The cortège will proceed from Wheatfield Way, down Buttery Lane, then turn left onto Mansfield Road.

It will continue right onto Forest Road, down Dalestorth Street, straight onto Outram Street.

Then right onto High Pavement, up Kirkby Road, across Sutton Road.

Finally it will turn left onto Chapel Street, down Victoria Road and onto Urban Road where it will pause outside of Ashfield District Council Offices for around five minutes at 2.00pm.

The procession will then proceed through Kirkby Town Centre, up Diamond Avenue, left onto Derby Road to the crematorium.

Community groups from Skegby will also be lining the route.

All who wish to pay their respects are asked to make their way to the flower beds behind the flag poles at the front of the building by 1.50pm.

The organisers have urged for social distancing guidance of being two metres to be followed.

To help with this there will be small markers on the ground either side and in front of the flower beds.

Neil Cotterill and his team will be supporting by ensuring that everyone keeps a safe distance and ensure that the Social Distancing guidance is followed.
