Funeral announced for tragic toddler who passed away in 'paddling pool' incident in Roscommon

A toddler who passed away following a drowning accident in Co. Roscommon will be laid to rest next week.

A strictly private funeral will be held for tragic tot Daithi O'Grady who passed away on Friday following a 'paddling pool' incident in Tulsk.

The 22-month old child, was transferred to University College Hospital Galway by air ambulance after Gardai were alerted to the incident.

He was later brought to Temple Street Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A private funeral for the toddler is set to take place.

A tribute on RIP.ie says that Daithi passed away "in the loving care of the wonderful staff at Temple Street Children’s Hospital ,Dublin."

"Dearly loved and much cherished son of his heartbroken parents Hayley and Richard, brother, sisters, grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, relatives and friends."

"The O’Grady and Dickens families thank you for your prayers, sympathy and support at this very difficult and sad time."

Speaking about the incident this week Fr Micheal Donnelly who knows the family of the boy well told of how the community had been left 'numb'.

He told Shannonside FM: "Shock doesn’t even describe it,”.

"Shock wouldn’t come anywhere near it. The place is numb.

“I was in the local school this morning; the kids are numb. I just left the family, and they are numb.

“The whole area you can get a sense of down, lack of life. There are no words you can say. That’s the big thing for a lot of the people – there are no words you can say to comfort them at this time.”

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí were alerted to incident of a male toddler in a serious condition at his home in Tulsk, Co. Roscommon on Monday 7th June, 2021.

"Gardaí and paramedics treated the toddler at the scene and he was taken to University College Hospital Galway by air ambulance. The toddler was later transferred to Temple Street Children's Hospital where his condition was critical.

"Gardaí have been informed that the male toddler died at Temple Street Children's Hospital on Thursday June 10, 2021.

"A file will now be prepared for the county coroner."
