Fundraising campaign for couple targeted in attack as murder investigation underway

A fundraiser has been set-up after an elderly woman who was attacked in her home died of her injuries.

Police have launched a murder investigation after the woman and her husband were attacked in the village of Langwith Junction, in Shirebrook, on Saturday, January 15.

Freda Walker, 86, has died of serious injuries and her 88-year-old husband Fred is critically ill in hospital.

Since the incident, a GoFundMe page has been set up to try and raise funds for the Walker family after the tragedy.

The page states: "Hearing the sad news that in Langwith two elderly people were attacked in their home.

"Mrs Walker, 86, has died of serious injuries and her 88-year-old husband is critically ill in hospital. We felt we need to help.

"The money raised will help this family with the funeral expenses of Freda and any other financial expenses support the family in what is such a traumatic time."

The page has been set up by an individual who founded the charity the Rope Project, which supports families who have fled domestic abuse or have been sleeping rough.

Anyone who wants to donate can visit the page by clicking here.

Police are still searching for the couple's attacker and have urged residents living nearby to keep their homes secure.

Anyone who may be able to help detectives with their enquiries is asked to contact Derbyshire police using any of the below methods, including reference 240-150122:
